Latest update: January 26 with the addition of the Limited Edition Built Puff Marshmallow Bar

Bars, bars, bars. In the past 3 years the variety of Keto Friendly Bars has exploded. From more Granola based to Protein bars. Ones that are great as a snack and others that are so filling that they can replace a meal.

With regards to flavors, the sky is the limit. Fruity ones like Strawberry or Lemon, Chocolat, Peanut Butter, Coffee, Coconut… you crave a flavor? There’s most likely a Keto bar with just that one!

Not all Keto Friendly Bars are made the same

What I’ve learned since starting Keto over 3 years ago is that:

  1. Just because it says ‘Keto’ on the packaging does not mean that ingredients are Keto friendly OR that that are low enough in net carbs to allow you to somewhat easily stay under 20-25gr net carbs per day.

  2. I’m generally not very drawn to eating bars. I only grab them when I go on hikes, to a baseball game or travel, which isn’t often these days for the latter.

  3. I’m picky about textures. The protein bars tend to be pressed which I’m not a fan of. Granola and nut bars are more my jam.

To remain somewhat objective in the following comparisons I will initially simply state whether the texture is more like a Protein bar or a Granola bar. Not sure yet how I’ll manage to review taste for the protein ones, so bear with me as I try to objectively describe it although I don’t like the texture x)

I have recently tried Protein Bars - the Quest nutrition ones to be exact - four different ways: Microwave, Air Fryer, Chaffle Maker and Oven. Watch the video to learn more about cooking times and textures. Microwave was THE surprise with how crunchy the bar ended up being.

Which Keto Friendly Bar is the right one for you?

Below you’ll find all the bars I’ve come across so far that are labeled ‘Keto’ or ‘Keto friendly’ and that I’ve had a chance to try.

I’ll compare not only price but also net carbs, serving size, texture, taste, sweetener and anything else that might be helpful for you to decide which bar to try.

Click on the snack bar you’d like to jump to or scroll through. Spreadsheet comparison is at the bottom of the post. For video reviews, checkout out Keto Anywhere on TikTok or YouTube.

Built Bar - Peanut Butter & Raspberry

About the company: Built Brands™ is a leading manufacturer and distributor of healthy, great-tasting protein and energy products--combining natural, clean ingredients in a unique way. Based in Utah. Nick Greer, Co-Founder of Built Brands says "We take pride in the balance of health and taste across our product portfolio. Every day feels like a cheat day, but it's not. From day one, we've wanted customers to enjoy the experience of eating something healthy.”

Variety tested: Peanut Butter & Raspberry

Type of bar: Gummy - read below for texture!

Sweetener used: Sugar, Maltodextrin, Erythritol

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: With the sugar and maltodextrin this is best for ‘dirty ketoers’ or people eating low carb. Check out the separate post on ingredients to learn more!

Net Carbs per serving: 4-6gr net carbs

Carb calculation:

  • Peanut Butter: 21gr (Total Carbs) - 7gr (Fiber) - 8g (Sugar Alcohols) = 6gr (Net Carbs)

  • Raspberry: 18gr (Total Carbs) - 6gr (Fiber) - 8g (Sugar Alcohols) = 4gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 130 for Raspberry and 180 kcal for Peanut Butter

Serving Size: 1 bar of 49gr for Raspberry and 1 bar of 58gr for Peanut Butter

My thoughts on serving size: If you’re eating Keto you can easily be satisfied with just half a bar and keep it at 2-3gr net carbs which might more easily fit into your daily allowance.

Ease of eating: Fine! It is chocolate coated so I would recommend eating straight out of the packaging.

Visual appeal: It is completely coated in chocolate and looks nice. Once you bite in you see the color of the filling which has a rich peanut butter color. The Raspberry filling is actually also brown.

My texture review: I did not see this texture coming! The best way I came up with to describe it, is to say it’s like a marshmallow met a gummy bear and then you coat that in chocolate. For me with the Peanut Butter flavor it did not work. For Raspberry I knew what to expect and thought it worked better.

My taste review:

  • For Peanut butter: I tasted the chocolate. I did not taste the peanut butter. At all. It was not particularly sweet. No aftertaste.

  • For Raspberry: The raspberry flavor is a bit artificial which I expected. It works pretty well with the chocolate though. Sweeter than Peanut Butter but not overly sweet. Also no aftertaste here.

Further details:

  • n/a

Overall: Now that I know what to expect texture-wise I think I will approach these bars differently. I feel like the peanut butter flavor could be much more intense. Raspberry was ok but I was hoping the fruity flavor would work even better with the texture. I feel like if you crave keto friendly gummy candy then these are a must try. If you don’t, then pass.

Other products available: They also have some electrolytes and these bars in many more flavors.

Where to buy: On their website and on Amazon.

Price: On the Built website, $37.80 for a Mixed Box that comes with 18 bars. Use code KETOANYWHERE for 10% off. The price is the same on Amazon but you can’t apply the 10% off.

Built Bars Puffs - Marshmallow Strawberry, Coconut and Vanilla

About the company: see above :D

Variety tested: Marshmallow Strawberry, Coconut and Vanilla

Type of bar: It’s Marshmallow! That has to be its own type!

Sweetener used: Sugar - boooo

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: With the sugar this is dirty keto and with the carbs it is more low carb than Keto except if you can stick to half a bar! Check out the separate post on ingredients to learn more!

Net Carbs per serving: 7gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 13gr (Total Carbs) - 0gr (Fiber) - 6g (Sugar Alcohols) = 7gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 130

Serving Size: 1 bar of 41gr

My thoughts on serving size: I’m very satisfied with eating half a bar!

Ease of eating: The chocolate coating can get sticky so best to eat straight out of the package

Visual appeal: Similar to the regular Built Bars, they are chocolate coating. Once you bite in though they are all filled with white marshmallow. I thought strawberry might eb pink but it is also white.

My texture review: It’s marshmallow and amazing. It’s soft and you can pull the bite off. The chocolate coating is thin and adds a nice creaminess to it. It really works exceptionally well together.

My taste review:

  • For Coconut: MY FAVORITE! So amazing! Not too sweet. Great Coconut flavor and combination with chocolate. I’m a fan. It smells really yummy of coconut too.

  • For Strawberry: Similar to coconut. Not too sweet. Amazing flavor and smell. Perfect marriage with the chocolate

  • For Vanilla: The smell is slightly artificial and unfortunately it translated into the taste for me. I usually LOVE vanilla as a flavor but this one did not work for me.

Further details:

  • This is a limited edition bar for now. Try it while they have it!

Overall: I didn’t know what to expect and was SO positively suprised. These are amazing. It’s like they created a bar that I didn’t know I had a craving for.

Other products available: They also have some electrolytes and the bars reviewed above.

Where to buy: On their website for now.

Price: On the Built website, $37.80 for a Mixed Box that comes with 18 bars. Use code KETOANYWHERE for 10% off.

Convenient Nutrition - Keto Wheyfer Bar - Cocoa Creme

About the company: “The Convenient Nutrition brand is an East Coast based company” with founders who “have over 50 years of experience between them in the health and nutrition industry”. They have a passion for healthy snacks which got them started on Convenient Nutrition and later the Keto Wheyfer bars.

Variety tested: Cocoa Creme - will also touch on Vanilla Creme

Type of bar: Waffle Bar

Sweetener used: Sugar, Aspartame, Sucralose

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: This is not a clean Keto bar. From Wheat flour to Rice Semolina to the sweeteners above, For dirty Keto and low carb only. Check out the separate post on ingredients to learn more!

Net Carbs per serving: 4gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 6gr (Total Carbs) - 2gr (Fiber) = 4gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 200 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 35gr

My thoughts on serving size: These are big bars. Stick to half to reduce the net carbs and you’ll still be very satisfied.

Ease of eating: Great. No sticking to fingers. Some dust from the waffles but nothing terrible. Great for on the go!

Visual appeal: They look really pretty. Top coating with rice puffs. Nice waffle layers with cream in between. Very light colors.

My texture review: It has the crunch you want in a waffle bar with a bit of creamyness from the layers in between. Very satisfying!

My taste review: Cocoa Creme first: This one I really liked. Not too sweet. Light chocolate flavor without being too much. No sweetener aftertaste. It reminded me of non-Keto chocolate-y waffle snacks. Prior to that I had tried the Vanilla Creme one too and that one was too bland for me. It didn’t really taste like anything. Ramp up the vanilla please!

Further details:

  • These contain Collagen

  • Non-GMO

Overall: If this fits your diet with the ingredients and you used to like waffle based snacks: go for it! These would be delicious with coffee, milk, as a snack or treat after dinner. With ice cream. If you’re sticking to a clean or strict Keto diet though, then pass even though the package says ‘Keto approved’.

Other products available: They also carry coffee creme as a flavor and recently added Cookies & Cream.

Where to buy: Netrition, Amazon and some other online health food stores.

Price: $19.99 for a box of 10 on Amazon

Dang Foods Bars

Dang Foods Almond Vanilla Ba

About the company: As brothers living between NYC & Bangkok, the founders Vincent and Andrew grew up eating differently. They created Dang—แดง, named after their Mom—to share uniquely Asian-American snacks with the flavors and ingredients they love, including their famous original Coconut Chips, their Thai street snack-inspired Thai Rice Chips, and their Keto Friendly Bars

The coconuts used in the products are sourced from family farms in Thailand. As a Certified B Corp, Dang meets rigorous standards of environmental performance and public transparency, and all of their farms follow ethical business practices.

Variety tested: Old reciped of Lemon Matcha, Almond Vanilla and Chocolate Sea Salt and the new recipe of Chocolate Sea Salt that is now called ‘Crazy Rich Chocolate with Sea Salt’

Type of bar: Protein Bar texture

Sweetener used: Stevia Extract

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: They use Pea Protein Crisps which list 'rice flour' as a sub ingredient which isn't fully clean keto. Otherwise ingredients look clean though

Net Carbs per serving: 4-5gr net carbs

Carb calculation: For crazy rich chocolate as an example: 10gr (Total Carbs) - 6gr (Fiber) = 4gr net carbs

Calories per serving: 210 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 40gr

My thoughts on serving size: For the bar I liked - more on it below - I only ate half as 5gr net carbs is a lot when I’m trying to stay under 20gr net carbs for the day and do not see bars as a meal replacement but rather as an additional snack.

Ease of eating: It can be a bit crumbly but according to the website with the new recipe they are less crumbly.

Visual appeal: Pressed but with some ingredients visible. Won’t win a beauty pageant but it’s a bar. What do you expect? ;)

My texture review: It was slightly crumbly - also in the new recipe - and fairly dense. It is similar to other protein bars in texture.

My taste review - original recipes: The only one I ate more than 2 bites of was Lemon Matcha. It has a nice flavor and I managed to get passed the protein bar texture. Chocolate Sea Salt was too salty and not chocolate-y enough. Almond Vanilla tasted like Marzipan for me. So the Almond was overpowering and the vanilla not to be tasted. The Bar has since been relabeled into Almond Cookie which I think fits much better.

My taste review - new (2020) Crazy Rich Chocolate recipe: Much less salty than the initial one I tried. Unfortunately I didn’t get any salt taste with it though and the chocolate wasn’t intense either or what I’d expect with the “Crazy Rich” label.

Further details:

  • Gluten free

  • Vegan

  • Dairy free

Overall: If you like bars with protein bar texture, give these a try. Some of their flavors are a bit uncommon which I like. I love that they are a B.Corp meaning sustainable production is really at the core of what they do.

Other products available: Rice crisps and Coconut Chips as well as other flavors of bars.

Where to buy: Online through their website www.dangfoods.com or on Amazon. As well as in many stores like Walmart, Krogers, Whole Foods, Bed, Bath and Beyond… Check the store locator on their website for more.

Price: $33.20 for a pack of 12 on their website $28.99 for a 12 pack - variety on Amazon

Fattbar Coconut Macadamia and Caramel Sea Salt

About the company: The “FattBar history began over 10 years ago in a small kitchen. Frustrated that every low carb bar turned out to be a protein bar or were full of ingredients they couldn’t pronounce, the FattBar founders decided to take matters into their own hands and set out to create a new product that was honest, natural and (shock) actually tasted great! The recipes have evolved over time into the range of snacks that you can enjoy guilt-free today.”

Variety tested: Coconut Macadamia and Caramel Sea Salt

Type of bar: Finely grained granola

Sweetener used: No added sweeteners!

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: All good, all clean!

Net Carbs per serving: 2-3 gr net carbs

Carb calculation:

  • Coconut & Macadamia: 14gr (Total Carbs) - 11gr (Fiber) = 3gr net carbs

  • Caramel Sea Salt: 12gr (Total Carbs) - 10gr (Fiber) = 2gr net carbs

Calories per serving: 140 - 146

Serving Size: 1 bar / 30gr

My thoughts on serving size: Perfect as a snack.

Ease of eating: It can be a bit sticky so I would recommend eating out of the packaging.

Visual appeal: These are like finely grounded granola. You see texture and they are light in color.

My texture review: It has some granola texture but not like a nut and see bar. It’s chewy. A bit sticky.

My taste review: I really enjoyed Coconut & Macadamia. It tasted mostly like Coconut. Not too sweet and felt like a healthy snack. Caramel Sea Salt was ok. I wish the flavors were more intense in that bar.

Overall: I think these are definitely worth a try and I can see myself ordering Coconut Macadamia again to take on trips or hikes.

Other products available: They also have chocolate bites. See review below.

Where to buy: On the Fattbar Website and on Amazon.

Price: On their website $13.75 for 5 bars. On Amazon it’s $14.99 for 5 bars.

Fattbar - Chocolate Bites

About the company: See above

Variety tested: Chocolate Bites

Type of bar: Tough one - it has a thin chocolate coating. The inside reminds me of a dry-ish protein bar

Sweetener used: No added sweeteners - that’s part of the Fattbar magic!

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: All good, all clean!

Net Carbs per serving: 3gr net carbs per bite and there are 2 bites per bar

Carb calculation: 12gr (Total Carbs) - 9gr (Fiber) = 3gr net carbs

Calories per serving: 100

Serving Size: 1 bite / 27gr

My thoughts on serving size: From these packages you usually expect the whole thing to be a serving not half of it. I think for people who like the bites the serving size is reasonable though.

Ease of eating: I held them in my fingers for 5 seconds and had chocolate all over so either eat fast or eat them straight out of the package / use the package as a wrap.

Visual appeal: They look good. A bit like mini mars / milky ways.

My texture review: The coating is not that crunch-like one. One know where the chocolate cracks under your teeth and might lift up on the sides? It’s much softer. The inside felt dry to me. I expected creamy (see below) but got something more brittle.

My taste review: I wanted to love these….but I didn’t. The packaging says “almond and cocoa creme center, wrapped in a deliciously indulgent dark chocolate coating”. I did not taste the almond and to be honest, neither really the cocoa / chocolate except for the coating. I feel like this is one of those bars that in its current iteration isn’t my thing but as they evolve it will get better. Not to sweet though which is great and no sweetener aftertaste.

Further details:

  • Produced in the UK

  • Non GMO

Overall: This one is a pass for me. I got it through Keto Krate (discounts here if you want to try it) and am glad I was able to try it with just one bar / pack of 2 bites. The ease of eating got me first and then the lack of flavor overall. Ramp up the chocolate.

Other products available: The more granola like bars described above!

Where to buy: Amazon!

Price: $14.99 for a pack of 3 bars

FitJoy - Cookie Dough Brownie Grain Free Protein Bar

About the company: Austin TX based. Founded by Doss Cunningham “as he faced a celiac disease diagnosis and a sensitivity to artificial sweeteners. He started by developing a line of grain-free protein bars with real ingredients.”

This evolved into FitJoy today, making “grain-free snacks that do good for your body and your community. Our forward-thinking test kitchens source the best ingredients to create innovative, grain-free recipes that are also free of gluten, maltitol, GMOs, and artificial flavors and sweeteners.”

Variety tested: Cookie Dough Brownie

Type of bar: Double layer protein bar with chocolate coated bottom

Sweetener used: sugar, evaporated cane syrup, stevia leaf extract

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: As you can see by the sweeteners used, these would not fit clean or dirty Keto. Learn more about ingredients in the Keto ingredients blog post.

Net Carbs per serving: 3gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 10gr (Total Carbs) - 5gr (Fiber) - 2gr (Glycerin) = 3gr (net carbs)

Calories per serving: 80

Serving Size: 1 fun size bar / 22gr

My thoughts on serving size: Perfect for the fun size

Ease of eating: I would recommend eating it out of the package with the chocolate coating.

Visual appeal: At first it looks like a half chocolate coated bar with toffee on top and chocolate chip. On further inspection it becomes clearer that the top is not toffee but a ligther protein bar which is pressed on a darker one and the bottom part is chocolate coated.

My texture review: It has the typical protein bar texture.

My taste review: It smelled artificial to me. I didn’t feel like the flavor was intense or there at all. Maybe a hint of chocolate but not cookie dough. Overall I felt like they could ramp up both the brownie and cookie dough flavor. It’s not particularly sweet. I didn’t notice an aftertaste but was generally unimpressed.

Further details:

  • Grain free

Overall: It’s a protein bar which means I’m not a fan, texture-wise. As I tried to disassociate the flavor though I felt like it didn’t convince me there either. If you match the serving size to other bars it is also higher in carbs plus has sweeteners that aren’t ideal on Keto.

Other products available: To learn more about the Protein Puffs check out the crunchy snack post. They also have non-Keto pretzels.

Where to buy: They sell through Amazon.

Price: $29.99 for a box of 12 full size bars. Click below for Cookie Dough Brownie, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cookies and Cream and Grand Ma’s Lemon Squares.

Goalfoods - Keto Snack Bite - Dark Chocolate Mocha

Goalfoods Dark Mocha Bites Keto Anywhere
Goalfoods Dark Mocha Bites Keto Anywhere

About the company: “A husband and wife team, driven by fitness and performance, building a lifestyle of extraordinary health under all the pressures of a busy life.” They “looked around for snacks that could power” their “busy days—keto without compromise on flavor.” and when they couldn’t find any that appealed to them they set out to make their own!

Variety tested: Dark Chocolate Mocha

Type of bar: Sticky version of a protein bar

Sweetener used: Stevia

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: All clean

Net Carbs per serving: 3gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 10gr (Total Carbs) - 7gr (Fiber) = 3gr (net carbs)

Calories per serving: 130

Serving Size: 1 bite / 30gr

My thoughts on serving size: Smaller than bars but would still be filling enough as a snack

Ease of eating: I kept mine at room temperature and it good a bit messy. Would recommend keeping it in the fridge.

Visual appeal: Is has a rich dark chocolate color and some lighter visible bits where I’m not sure if it is almond butter or something else. I’m not seeing nuts in the ingredient list.

My texture review: It has a similar texture to protein bars.

My taste review: It smelled nicely of coffee. The flavor was also more mocha than chocolate. It wasn’t too sweet. I didn’t get an aftertaste.

Further details:

  • Gluten free

Overall: I’m not a fan of the protein bar texture but I think that if you enjoy that, then these are worth a try. They would definitely complement an after-meal coffee well or might make a good mid afternoon snack.

Other products available: They also have snack bites in coconut latte and hemp bites.

Where to buy: They seem to only sell through Amazon but seem sold out as I’m writing this.

Price: $23 for a bag of 10 bites

Heka Good Foods - Ketobar - Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk & Chocolate Sea Salt

About the company: Meet HEKA’s founder Yemeni Mesa -> @keto_head. He’s been following a low carb lifestyle for over 30 years and initially came across it when bodybuilding. He later worked at Quest and learned more about Keto. After 4-weeks of trying Keto the results he “experienced were so profound” that it “turned into a lifestyle.” As many other founders he saw a need for more snack options with a focus for him on clean ingredients.

Variety tested: Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk & Chocolate Sea Salt

Type of bar: Sticky version of a protein bar

Sweetener used: Allulose, Erythritol

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: All good, all clean!

Net Carbs per serving: 1 -2gr net carbs

Carb calculation:

  • For PB Choc Chunk: 23gr (Total Carbs) - 6gr (Fiber) - 3gr (Erythritol) - 13gr (Allulose) = 1gr (net carbs)

  • For Chocolate Sea Salt: 26gr (Total Carbs) - 7gr (Fiber) - 4gr (Erythritol) - 13gr (Allulose) = 2gr (net carbs)

Calories per serving: 190

Serving Size: 1 bar / 55gr

My thoughts on serving size: I wouldn’t be able to eat the whole bar. I’d be more inclined to cut it in pieces and sneak a bite here and there

Ease of eating: It is a bit sticky but nothing that would make you need to wash your hands after eating

Review of Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk:

Visual appeal: Nice peanut butter color with visible chocolate chips and some peanut brittles too.

My texture review: I expected the bar to have the same texture as the Quest Nutrition protein bars but it did not. It is similar as it is compressed and dense but it is also sticky which for me swayed it towards fudge and toffee.

My taste review: Better than expected lol Rich in Peanut Butter. Nice balance of chocolate. Not too sweet. No sweetener aftertaste. The smell is a bit artificial but I did not get that when eating it.

Review of Chocolate Sea Salt

Visual appeal: Rich dark chocolate color. Clearly visible chunks of almonds. Shiny.

My texture review: Similar to the above, this bar as a fudgey protein bar texture.

My taste review: Usually when bars say ‘Sea Salt’ you’re lucky if you get a hint of salt. With these, unfortunately the opposite was the case and the salt overpowered the chocolate for me. I’m thinking it might just have been this batch but would now be cautious to try it again.

Further details:

  • Grain free

  • Gluten free

Overall: I’d say a semi win. I expected to dislike them and I didn’t for the Peanut Butter one. The flavor and texture were better than I thought they’d be. Would I buy myself one? Most likely not. Will I finish the bar after this review? I think I will go ahead with cutting it into bites, keeping them in the fridge and eating them here and there. The Chocolate Sea Salt one however was too salty for me.

Other products available: Bars in ALL the flavors and cookies

Where to buy: Directly on the HEKA Good Foods website or on Amazon.

Price: $38.99 on their website for a 12-pack BUT check for sales and stack with extra 10% off with code KETOANYWHERE. At time of posting the price is also $38.99 on Amazon but with a clippable coupon.

Hungry Buddha - Chocolate Chip Keto Bar

Hungry Buddha Choc Chip Keto Bar Keto Anywhere Review

About the company: Based in Canada. The founders got into half iron mans and realized that that led them to eat many bars. They “quickly found that the majority of bars were full of sugar, allergens, fillers and GMO ingredients. The healthy bars we did find usually didn't taste that great or left us feeling hungry.” What do you do when you don’t find what you need? You create your own. To help with their launch they enlisted the support from everyone through Kickstarter and the first time I heard of them was when I received a bar in my Keto Krate.

Variety tested: Chocolate Chip

Type of bar: Protein bar

Sweetener used: Monk fruit, little bit of sugar in the chocolate chips

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: Brown rice flour in the pea protein crisps and sugar in the chocolate chips.

Net Carbs per serving: 4-5gr net carbs - see below

Carb calculation: 16gr (Total Carbs) - 11gr (Fiber) = 5gr (net carbs) yet on the front of the package they print 4gr net carbs…

Calories per serving: 170

Serving Size: 1 bar / 40gr

My thoughts on serving size: If you like it I think the whole bar would be very filling.

Ease of eating: Fine. Not sticky or brittle. I’d say easy to eat on the go.

Visual appeal: It has the color of peanut butter. You can see some chocolate chips and little light bits which might be the pea protein crisps. The sunflower seeds are also slightly visible.

My texture review: These have a very similar texture to Quest Nutrition Bars which I’m personally not fond of. Very dense.

My taste review: First to the smell: When I opened the package I got an artificial smell which wasn’t appealing. After waiting a bit that was gone so I’m guessing it must be the packaging or how the product ferments in the packaging. I then took a bit and I almost didn’t finish it. The bar did not have a chocolate chip or sunflower butter flavor which is one of the main ingredients. To be honest, I’m not even sure what it tastes like. I have no reference for it. It’s not sweet. No sweetener taste but also no other flavor really.

Further details:

  • Gluten free

  • Peanut free

Overall: I think this is one of those bars where the recipe needs to evolve based on customer feedback. If you like bars like the Quest Nutrition ones though, you might very well like these too. Let me know if you identfy a flavor that I missed!

Other products available: Just bars for now in 3 flavors. Coconut Cocoa, Espresso Brownie and Chocolate Chip

Where to buy: From a quick google search it looks like Meijers might sell these. Also Amazon and other online retailers.

Price: On Amazon $19.99 for a pack of 12.

Ketobars - Bars

Ketobars snack Dark Chocolate Coconut Almond

About the company: Founded by Jon who in 2012, on his journey of losing over 70 pounds, was searching for on-the-go keto products. When he couldn't find any, he made some in his kitchen. In 2014 Ketobars was founded with 4 flavors being offered today and more exciting products to come! The operation has long left his home kitchen, but they're still a small company. Their bars are made in small batches and made with the same real,high-quality ingredients. Ketobars

Variety tested: Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Dark Chocolate Coconut Almond

Type of bar: Mix between Granola and Protein Bar texture. More the latter

Sweetener used: Erythritol, Stevia

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: Looks clean but the first ingredient e.g. chocolate is not broken up to understand what the ingredients of the chocolate are

Net Carbs per serving: 3gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 13gr (Total Carbs) - 6gr (Fiber) - 4gr (Erythritol) = 3gr net carbs

Calories per serving: 230 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 47gr, 1.65 oz

My thoughts on serving size: I never managed to eat a whole bar. It is very rich and I usually eat it a 1/4 or 1/3 at a time. It stays fresh and good if you fold the packaging over or keep it in a ziploc.

Ease of eating: It can be a bit crumbly but generally very easy to eat. Not particularly sticky.

Visual appeal: Pressed but with some ingredients visible. Not the prettiest thing ever, but then we’re talking about Bars here. Not art ;)

My texture review: As mentioned above it is dense and a bit crumbly. Good chew as you eat it.

My taste review: It takes me a few small bites to get into it. So give them a chance beyond the first few chews. They are intense and somewhat ‘heavy’. It’s hard to describe. For example the chocolate covered Strawberry one is flavorful with regards to chocolate and you get the strawberry flavor as well but it’s almost too rich with these flavors. Like they are pressed like the bar is.

Further details:

  • Gluten free

  • Vegan

  • Dairy Free

Overall: These for me belong into the category “Try it once”. If you can, buy or get a single bar of each flavor - check out their sampler pack for example and split it with 3 friends and see how you like it.

Other products available: Mint Chocolate Bar

Where to buy: Online through their website www.ketobars.com or on Amazon. I have not found them in any stores yet.

Ketofit - Bars

Ketofitbar Keto Anywhere Bar Comparison

About the company: Founded by Anthony J. Lefrancois, a police officer who has served his community since 2006. Anthony started experimenting with the ketogenic diet in late 2015 to combat chronic pain. In 2016 he was seconded to the RCMP as a U.N. Peace Keeper and has completed a 1 year deployment in Haiti. During his downtime he started researching more in depth about the benefits of the ketogenic diet and formulating his recipe for the KETOFIT BAR.

Variety tested: Chocolate

Type of bar: Protein Bar

Sweetener used: Erythritol, Stevia

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: Looks very clean! This is more than just a snack bar as it also had Collagen and MCT added

Net Carbs per serving: 3gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 13gr (Total Carbs) - 9gr (Fiber) = 4gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 290 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 54gr = 2oz

My thoughts on serving size: To lower calories I would suggest eating half a bar at a time.

Ease of eating: Very easy and not messy.

Visual appeal: Pressed but with some ingredients like chocolate bits visible. Protein bars tend to not be the prettiest and this one is not exception ;)

My texture review: Typical protein bar texture

Further details:

  • Gluten free

  • Contains MCT and Collagen

My taste review: As mentioned in the intro, protein bars are not my thing. Not just texture but also taste-wise. I found these salty. When hitting a piece of chocolate it was ok. I did not finish the bar I started. I know many Ketoers who love them though, so if you like other Protein Bars you'll most likely really enjoy these

Overall: For Protein bar lovers: Give them a try! I love the story of the founder and that this is truly a small business that you’re supporting!

Kiss My Keto - Keto Bar - Salted Caramel & Maple Donut

About the company: On the Kiss My Keto Website one of the co-founder - Alex - shares his recent history with cancer - not just a risk for himself but a close relatives diagnosis. Studies have shown that cancer can progress faster in a high carb diet which triggered him to look into low carb diets and Keto. As for his fellow co-founder Michael, he switched to Keto following hormonal challenges and hearing from his doctor that he was pre-diabetic.

As they both roamed through stores they realized the lack of low carb products and decided to change that! Today Kiss My Keto has a very wide range of products which are created by Keto-ers for Keto-ers!

Variety tested: Salted Caramel & Maple Donut

Type of bar: Protein Bar-ish with sweet coating

Sweetener used: Stevia Extract

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: All clean

Net Carbs per serving: 3gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 15gr (Total Carbs) - 12gr (Fiber) = 3gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 240-250 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 50gr = 1.8oz

My thoughts on serving size: I think eating half would work too. It’s a generous serving size.

Ease of eating: With the coating I would recommend eating it out of the packaging to avoid possible sticky fingers.

Visual appeal: The coating is light beige and looks appealing. Inside the filling is a bit darker and you can make out some almond bits.

My texture review: It is similar to a protein bar. A bit drier or less chewy. The coating ressembles a thin layer of chocolate

Further details:

  • Gluten free

  • Soy free

My taste review:

  • Salted Caramel: I honestly do not know what this tastes like but it definitely did not taste like Salted Caramel. It wasn’t particularly sweet and throughout my chewing I couldn’t find any reference point for the taste. It was not enjoyable. The smell is artifical and doesn’t give an indication either.

  • Maple Donut: I tasted neither Maple nor Donut nor Maple Donut. It smells artificial and unfortunately that is also what came to mind as I was eating it. Again, not particularly sweet but also hard to describe what it actually tastes like.

Overall: I took a bite and was not willing to take another. The texture wasn’t something I enjoy either. I like a bit of crunch or more nuts and seed rather than this dense type of bar.

Other products available: Kiss my Keto has tons of products from Pasta to supplements to brownies, broths. You name it: they have it!

Where to buy: Directly from Kiss My Keto or on Amazon.

Price: The price for a 12-pack is $35.99 on the Kiss My Keto Site as well as on Amazon. On the Kiss My Keto Site you get an extra 10% off with code KETOANYWHERE10 though and if you use Rakuten you can get extra cashback.

Munk Pack - Granola Bar

Munk Pack Keto Granola Bars

About the company: From their corporate lives to their camping adventures, the two founders were always looking for portable, nutritious, great tasting foods. They started by testing recipes in their kitchen and selling their products at local farmers markets to gather first-hand feedback from the community. They’ve since scaled up to selling their delicious snacks at favorite grocery stores throughout the country.

They’ve worked hard over the years to develop innovative snacks that taste great and meet their demanding nutritional standards. High quality, real ingredients are always their priority. Through Munk Pack, they are empowering people to lead active, healthy lifestyles on the go.

Variety tested: All - Almond Butter Cocoa Chip, Maple Pecan, Coconut Cocoa Chip and Peanut Butter

Type of bar: Granola

Sweetener used: Allulose, Monk Fruit Extract

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: Tapioca Fiber made me pause but turns out to be fine. Read more in the separate Keto Ingredient post.

Net Carbs per serving: 2gr net carbs. The label will show you 8gr net carbs of which you can then deduct 5.5g for Allulose. Munk Pack also substracts another 0.5gr for Glycerin

Carb calculation: 12gr (Total Carbs) - 4gr (Fiber) - 5.5gr (Allulose) - 0.5gr (Glycerin) = 2gr net carbs

Calories per serving: 140 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 32gr so just over 1oz

My thoughts on serving size: It was perfect as a snack for one person. Filling and I could see how if I was less hungry I could also just eat half.

Ease of eating: I ate it out of the packaging to avoid potentially sticky fingers

Visual appeal: The bar looks exactly like the picture on the box!

My texture review: It’s just like a finer granola bar. Good chew-factor and very satisfying texture.

My taste review: I loved each flavor. Not too sweet, great balance of ingredients so that none overpowered, no aftertaste - it really felt like eating a healthy snack and reminded me of non-keto granola bars I used to eat.

Further details:

  • Gluten free

  • Plant based

Overall: Big fan. Zenobars - that are unfortunately retiring - used to be my favorite bars. I’m very glad to now have come across Munk Pack bars that will be my go to going forward.

Other products available: Nut & Seed bars, cookies

Where to buy: Online through their website www.munkpack.com or on Amazon. Plus in more and more stores like Whole Foods, Walmart, Sprouts. In the Midwest at Jewel-Osco, Woodman’s, Fresh Thyme. Check their store locator for more!

Munk Pack - Keto Nut & Seed

About the company: see above

Variety tested: Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate

Type of bar: Granola

Sweetener used: Allulose, Monk Fruit Extract

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: Similar to the Granola Bar this has Tapioca Fiber which is fine. It also has Rice Flour though which could impact your blood sugar levels. Read more here.

Net Carbs per serving: 3gr net carbs.

Carb Calculation: 15gr (Total Carbs) - 4gr (Fiber) - 8gs (Allulose) = 3gr net carbs

Calories per serving: 150 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 35gr so just over 1.25oz

My thoughts on serving size: Great size. Usually I would try to only eat half but this was too good to stop half way.

Ease of eating: I ate it out of the packaging to avoid potentially sticky fingers

Visual appeal: I love bars where you can clearly see all the ingredients. The clear packaging also helps know what you’re getting. Very visually appealing.

My texture review: Crunchy and also sticky. Very satsifying to chew on.

My taste review: Delicious! I would have eaten another right after if I had had one. So dangerously good if you buy yourself a bigger box.

Further details:

  • Gluten free

  • Plant based

Overall: Similar to their Granola bar this Keto Nut & Seed one is amazing. It tastes like or even better than non-Keto bars. It makes you question why other brands have granola bars full of sugar when the same can be achieved without any and just natural sweeteners.

Other products available: Granola bars (see above) and cookies

Where to buy: Online through their website www.munkpack.com or on Amazon. Plus in more and more stores. Check their store locator for more!

Price: $24.99 for a pack of 12 on their website or on Amazon.

Primal Kitchen - Peanut Butter Bar

About the company: “After achieving new heights of wellness and vitality through real-food eating, Mark Sisson set out to create the world’s best-tasting, real-food pantry staples, starting with a mayonnaise made with avocado oil. Today, Primal Kitchen® delivers on its promise” with a wider range of products like “condiments, dressings/marinades, avocado oils, protein bars, collagen protein powder and bars, and whey protein”

Variety tested: Peanut Butter

Type of bar: Protein Bar

Sweetener used: Honey, Monkfruit extract

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: The Honey is not fit for clean Keto!

Net Carbs per serving: 3gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 9g (Total Carbs) - 6gr (Fiber) = 3gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 200

Serving Size: 1 bar / 38 gr

My thoughts on serving size: It feels like a generous serving size and that - if you like the bar - a full one would be very filling

Ease of eating: I would recommend eating it out of the package. Otherwise you might get fatty / shiny fingers from the peanut butter

Visual appeal: This ‘bar’ does not have the typical bar shape and is rather a square. It has the color of peanut butter and looks like other pressed protein bars.

My texture review: As I bit into it, it felt a bit dry and broke off. while chewing it is similar to other protein bars and feels like it because pasty in the mouth.

My taste review: Unfortunately I did not find the peanut butter taste. It wasn’t sweet. The flavor is hard to describe but the closest that came to mind for me was yeast or bread. But not in a good way…

Further details:

  • Gluten free

  • Grain free

Overall: It’s a ‘no’ for me. This reminds me of the very first Keto products that hit the shelves a few years back. Maybe as they revisit formulas they’ll improve it but for now I did not finish the bar and would not get it again.

Other products available: Primal Kitchen is also known for their sauces and oils that are commonly available in stores like Target or Whole Foods.

Where to buy: See above or on their Website or on Amazon.

Price: $23.95 for 12 on their website. Save 10% off with code KETOANYWHERE. $25.11 on Amazon

Quest Nutrition - Hero Bar

About the company: Founders Ron and Shannan Penna created the first Quest Protein bar in their personal kitchen back in 2010. It was hand-rolled and a hit among friends and family. In 2012 the bars grew in popularity and Quest was represented at its first trade show. In 2013 the very popular Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bar was launched and in 2014 Quest Protein Chips and Powder. A year later Quest products moved from being available in speciality stores to mass retailers and in the following years expanded to offering cookies, pizzas and more.

Quests goal is to “to support people on their personal quest. That’s what motivates us every day to continue to innovate, iterate and perfect our foods for our fans. Because we're all #ONAQUEST together.”

The original founders are now running Legendary Foods featured with their Pizza flavored almonds in this list.

Variety tested: Peanut Butter Chocolate, Vanilla Caramel and Chocolate Caramel Pecan

Type of bar: Mix of crispy puff bar with chocolate snack bar

Sweetener used: Erythritol, Allulose, Sucralose

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: Under 2% Sucralose. Learn more about ingredients and the effects of Sucralose in the Keto ingredients blog post.

Net Carbs per serving: 3-4gr net carbs

Carb calculation:

  • Peanut Butter = 18g (Total Carbs) - 5gr (Fiber) - 5gr (Allulose) - 5gr (Erythritol) = 3gr (Net Carbs)

  • Chocolate Caramel Pecan = 28gr (Total Carbs) - 11gr (FIber) - 11gr (Allulose) - 2gr (Erythritol) = 4gr (Net carbs)

  • Vanilla Caramel = 29gr (Total Carbs) - 10gr (Fiber) - 11gr (Allulose) - 4gr (Erythritol) = 4gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 180 - 200

Serving Size: 1 bar / 54 gr - 60 gr

My thoughts on serving size: This is a very generous serving size. I personally am happy and satisfied after half a bar and keep the other for another day.

Review of Peanut Butter Chocolate

Ease of eating: It is coated in chocolate which leads me to recommend to keep it in the packaging and slide it out to eat.

Visual appeal: Nice and thick bar coated in a thin layer of chocolate. Inside you can visibly see bits of peanuts and what I believe are crisps.

My texture review: It has some crunch thanks to what I believe are crisps. Not at all like the original Quest protein bars.

My taste review: It reminds me a bit of Snickers without the big peanut chunks and the liquid caramel. It is sweet but not too sweet. Good balance of peanut and chocolate. No sweetener taste or after taste.

Further details:

  • 19gr protein

Overall: I like this bar unlike the original Quest nutrition bars. This reminds me more of a candy bar I would have taken to the movies as a sweet treat. Not something for every day but as a little endulgence here and there.

Quick notes on Vanilla Caramel: My first thought was “sweeet”. The coating is light. Like white chocolate. The caramel was more liquid and again I enjoyed the puffy crisp texture. The smell reminded me of a caramel macchiato.

Quick notes on Chocolate Caramel Pecan: Thick chocolate coating. Iwish this had a stronger Pecan taste. Unfortunately, for me the flavor did not come through. I did however taste the chocolate and caramel. For this one, again the caramel was not liquid or as pictures though and had a more firmer texture.

Other products available: Quest also has cookies, protein powders and my favorite product of theirs are their chips that you can read more about in the Keto crunchy snack review.

Where to buy: Target, Walmart and more and more other major retailers. Also online directly from Quest as well as on Amazon.

Price: In stores, about $2 per bar. On Amazon, starting at $18.73 for a box of 10. On the Quest Website they are $24.99 for a box of 10.

Quest Nutrition - Protein bar - Double Layer Peanut Butter Brownie Smash

About the company: see above

Variety tested: Double Layer Peanut Butter Brownie Smash

Type of bar: Protein bar

Sweetener used: Stevia, Monk Fruit, Erythritol

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: All good.

Net Carbs per serving: 5gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 23g (Total Carbs) - 14gr (Fiber) - 4gr (Erythritol) = 5gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 190

Serving Size: 1 bar / 60 gr

My thoughts on serving size: I would stick to half to keep the net carbs lower and half the bar would still be a very generous portion.

Ease of eating: Fine. No coating so you can take it out of the package to eat too.

Visual appeal: It looks nice with the darker bottom layer and lighter top layer. Some nut chunks are visible in the bottom layer.

My texture review: Typical protein bar. I’m not a fan. I find the texture more appealing when I’ve air fried them or when I’ve put them in the microwave but I wouldn’t buy a bar with the intent to cook it. It’s more to make it work than driven by craving or need.

My taste review: As I smelled it I did smell Peanut Butter from the top layer and chocolate from the bottom. Taste wise it did not translate as well. I did get both flavors and they were ok. Nothing super memorable but if you enjoy Protein bars I believe you’ll like those.

Further details:

  • 20gr of protein

Overall: It’s a texture thing for me with Protein bars. So, pass for me but if you like the texture, try it!

Other products available: Quest also has cookies, protein powders and my favorite product of theirs are their chips that you can read more about in the Keto crunchy snack review.

Where to buy: Amazon or the Quest Website. You can also find them at Target or stores like the Vitamine Shoppe.

Price: $24.99 for 12 bars on Amazon. Same price on the Quest Website.

Quest Nutrition - Snack Bar - Peanut Chocolate Crunch

About the company: See above

Variety tested: Peanut Chocolate Crunch

Type of bar: Granola Bar

Sweetener used: Erythritol, Stevia Extract

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: This particular Quest bar is clean Keto and does not have Sucralose. Yay!

Net Carbs per serving: 5gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 14g (Total Carbs) - 7gr (Fiber) - 2gr (Sugar Alcohols) = 5gr (Net Carbs) The packaging is a bit confusing here. The nutrition facts add up to 4gr net carbs while the separate calculation shows 5g net carbs.

Calories per serving: 210

Serving Size: 1 bar / 43 gr

My thoughts on serving size: I would stick to half to keep the net carbs lower and half the bar would still be a very generous portion.

Ease of eating: I would recommend eating it out of the packaging as otherwise the chocolate coating might melt.

Visual appeal: I love it. Still a big fan of packaging that is clear and shows the bar. The bottom is chocolate coated. The top has a chocolate drizzle. You can clearly see the peanuts as well as crisps.

My texture review: Nice bite with the bits of peanuts and a bit of crunch with little crunch pebbles. Also the nice amount of stickyness. In non-keto foods I would put this in between a candy bar like snickers and a granola bar.

My taste review: I really enjoy the taste. You get a nice peanut flavor. A bit of salt. A bit of chocolate to offset it. Very enjoyable and feels like a guilty pleasure when it’s actually fine and lower in carbs.

Further details:

  • 10gr of protein

Overall: I’m not a fan of the regular Quest Protein bars. I warmed up to their Hero bars once I tried them and now that I’ve tried these Snack Bars they would be my go to. Not necessarily on something like a hike or a trip but more as a movie watching treat or when wanting something sweet.

Other products available: Quest also has cookies, protein powders and my favorite product of theirs are their chips that you can read more about in the Keto crunchy snack review.

Where to buy: Amazon or the Quest Website. You can also find them at Target or stores like the Vitamine Shoppe.

Price: $14.99 for 12 bars on Amazon. $21.49 on the Quest Website for a pack of 12.

Ratio Keto - Lemon Almond Crunch Bar

About the company: Behind ‘Ratio bar’ and ‘Ratio Food’ stands General Mills! More about them from Wikipedia: “General Mills, Inc., is an American multinational manufacturer and marketer of branded consumer foods sold through retail stores. It is headquartered in Golden Valley, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis”

Variety tested: Lemon Almond Crunch bar

Type of bar: Pressed Granola Bar

Sweetener used: Erythritol

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: All good, all clean!

Net Carbs per serving: 2gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 9g (Total Carbs) - 3gr (Fiber) - 4gr (Sugar Alcohols) = 2gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 220

Serving Size: 1 bar / 41 gr

My thoughts on serving size: I think you could easily just eat half a bar and be very satisfied

Ease of eating: It’s definitely crunchy. So much so that when you bite on it you have seeds or other pieces flying all over. It’s almost dusty!

Visual appeal: Light in color. You can easily make out the seads. It’s thinner than other bars. About 1cm I’d estimate.

My texture review: I was surprised at how much I had to bite down to get a bite. I also felt it was dry. Granola bars usually tend to have some stickyness to them and this one did not.

My taste review: It smells like lemon cake when opening it and it continues to taste like lemon cake as you eat it. I did not taste the almond. For me it felt like eating a lemon cake that has the wrong texture…if that makes sense. Not too sweet. No sweetener aftertaste.

Overall: These are not for me. I didn’t finish the bar after reviewing it and would not buy it again.

Other products available: They also sell yogurts which I have not tried yet.

Where to buy: Costco had them for a while. Amazon has them too.

Price: $20.64 for a pack of 12 on Amazon.

Raw Rev Glo - Creamy Peanut Butter & Sea Salt

About the company: “As a visiting nurse. Alice Benedetto felt so strongly about nutrition as medicine she found herself challenging pations to be vegan for a day.” With a passion for this way of eating, eventually Raw Rev was born. Using raw and vegan ingredients that are nut-based and with low carb options.

Variety tested: Creamy Peanut Butter & Sea Salt

Type of bar: Protein Bar

Sweetener used: none

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: I paused at the ‘Brown Rice Protein’. After some research I found that it is a low glycemic derivative of rice and thus suitable for a keto diet.

Net Carbs per serving: 3gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 17gr ( Total Carbs) - 14gr (Fiber) = 3gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 180 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 46gr = 1.6oz

My thoughts on serving size: Fine. If you like it, half a bar might be filling as a snack too.

Ease of eating: It’s not sticky and just a bit crumbly which makes it easy to eat.

Visual appeal: It has the color of peanut butter and chia seeds are visible throughout.

My texture review: Like a dry version of a protein bar. Pretty dense. The chia seeds are a nice touch to have something to grind on.

My taste review: Not very intense in peanut butter flavor and I did not taste the sea salt. It wasn’t sweet and didn’t have any aftertaste which makes sense given that there’s no sweetener.

Further details:

  • Vegan

  • Gluten Free

Overall: It’s not a memorable bar. Kinda bland and I do not think I would be drawn to it again.

Other products available: Raw Rev also has other bars / flavors

Where to buy: These are available on Amazon, on the Raw Rev Website as well as some other online shops. I received this in the December KetoKrate.

Price: $26.99 for a pack of 12 on their website and $68.99 on Amazon for 3 packs of 12.

SOLA - Nut Bars

SOLA Nut Bar PB Milk Chocolate

About the company: The Sola Company was founded out of the pursuit of creating healthier alternatives without compromising on taste. In 2012, Chef Ryan, a low-carb chef, was on a mission to find a low-carb, low-calorie sugar replacement without the cascade of negative health effects associated with sugar and artificial sweeteners. Chef Ryan wanted a sweetener that offered the taste, texture, and culinary potential of sugar. He gathered what he learned from years of trial and error experiments with natural sugar substitutes, and created a new sweetener that not only has great taste but measures cup-for-cup just like sugar: all the advantages, none of the disadvantages. The Sola sweetener was born.

Next came the idea to use the Sola sweetener to bring low-carb foods to supermarket aisles. Pastry Chef Ashley joined and the expansion into bread, granola, ice cream, and nut bars began.

Variety tested: Peanut Butter & Milk Chocolate

Type of bar: Granola Bar

Sweetener used: Allulose, Maltilol, Tapioca Syrup, Monk Fruit Extract, Stevia Leaf Extract

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: The Coating has Maltitol which is a ‘no no’ on stict / clean Keto. It is only in the little drizzle of chocolate on top of the bar, Tapioca Syrup is also listed which is a controversial ingredient when eating Keto

Net Carbs per serving: 5gr net carbs

Carb calculation:

Calories per serving: 170 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 38gr = 1.4oz

My thoughts on serving size: To lower carbs, I ate only half a bar which was a challenge because it is delicious!

Ease of eating: Slightly sticky so best to eat right out of the packaging

Visual appeal: When a packaging is clear / transparent that is a good indication of the ‘prettiness’ of the food inside because there is not way someone would pick clear packaging for something that isn’t visually appealing. Looks like a great and tasty granola bar.

My texture review:

My taste review: I really loved this bar. As mentioned above, with the 5gr net carbs I stuck to half a bar. I wish these were lower in net carbs! It has just the right sweetness, good flavor of PB and chocolate. Great sweet treat that doesn't add up too much if you control your portions!

Further details:

  • Gluten free

Overall: For Low Carbers: Run, buy, enjoy! For Ketoers: If you can watch your portion, go for it. If that’s a bit of a challenge for you, find someone to share with who forces you to split in half ;)

Other products available: Bars: White Chocolate Vanilla Caramel Bar and Chocolatey Nurs & Sea Salt. SOLA also has ice cream, sweetener, bread and cereal. See upcoming comparisons for those!

Where to buy: Online through their website www.solasweet.com as well as on Amazon and many grocery stores like Meijers, Kroger, HEB…

Price: $15.39 for a pack of 12 on their website and $20.99 on Amazon.

The Good Lovin Bar - Peanut Butter Brownie, Crunchy Peanut Butter and Crunchy Peanut Butter Cup

About the company: n/a

Variety tested: Peanut Butter Brownie, Crunchy Peanut Butter and Crunchy Peanut Butter Cup

Type of bar: Protein Bars

Sweetener used: Monkfruit

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: All clean. All good!

For the Peanut Butter Brownie Bar:

Net Carbs per serving: 5gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 9gr (Total Carbs) - 4gr (Fiber) = 5gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 260 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 45gr = 1.6oz

My thoughts on serving size: Half of a bar will fill you up as a snack. A full bar will last you longer.

Ease of eating: It’s not sticky or crumbly and easy to eat. The only thing is that it is recommended to be stored in the fridge, so not as ideal if you’re going to be on the go and want to eat it at a later time.

Visual appeal: Nice Peanut Butter and Chocolate-y color with chunks of Peanuts and chocolate visible. The other flavors are lighter and also have visible bits of Peanuts.

My texture review: Similar to protein bars but a bit drier at first bite. The bar then turns into a buttery texture as you chew which works really well. The Crunchy versions do have crisps that add a bit of crunch but nothing extreme.

My taste review: For a protein bar textured bar I liked the Peanut Butter Brownie Bar. The Peanut Butter tastes natural, not too sweet. The chocolate also balances well with it so that you get both flavors without it being too much. As for the crunch bars: I found that both could be more intense in flavor and wasn’t as impressed.

Further details:

  • Plant based

  • No preservatives

  • No artificial flavors

Overall: The Peanut Butter Brownie Bar was good. The Crunchy ones not as much to the point where I might not have guessed their flavor if I hadn’t known. I’m curious about the other Good Lovin bar flavors based on these taste tests. If someone offered me a bar I would try it but I wouldn’t go to extra length to find or buy these.

Other products available: They also have a paleo line.

Where to buy: On their Website or on Amazon - only the non crunchy ones at the moment.

Price: $11.99 for a pack of 4 on their website and $11.99 on Amazon for the same pack of 4.

Yofiit - Keto Bar - Choco Vanilla with Algal Oil

Yofiit Keto Anywhere Bar Review Choco Vanilla Nutrition Facts

About the company: Founder Marie was an early adopter of the plant based diet. Like, 15 years early! Because of a lack of mainstream products that cater to her preferred diet she decided to “ launch a line with plant-based ingredients”. “No gums or a ton of sugar or any nonsense like that… Because what is the point of saving the planet by turning to plant-based if we are not going to be around to enjoy it by eating all that crap?”

First she focused on milk and then she moved on to bars. She realized they had “close to 20 grams of sugar or sugar alcohol” which led her to think of bars that “ would sustain over time instead of providing a crash and burn experience.” while also “enhancing gut health instead of destroying it.”

Variety tested: Choco Vanilla

Type of bar: Granola Bar

Sweetener used: Monkfruit extract

Cleanliness of ingredients for strict Keto: All clean. All good!

Net Carbs per serving: 3gr net carbs

Carb calculation: 13gr (Total Carbs) - 10gr (Fiber) = 3gr (Net Carbs)

Calories per serving: 180 kcal

Serving Size: 1 bar is 35gr = 1.25oz

My thoughts on serving size: Great! Makes a satsifying snack

Ease of eating: A bit tricky. The bar doesn’t quite hold its shape and crumbles a bit when opening and eating.

Visual appeal: You can clearly make out all the seeds and nuts with a light cocoa coating. It make it look very natural.

My texture review: Great! It definitely gives you something so chew on with the nuts and seeds. Not dry. Like a great granola that sticks together lightly without being sticky on the fingers if that makes sense.

My taste review: At first I wasn’t sure but as I was chewing it won me over. It smells lightly of cocoa and at first bite you mostly get texture rather than taste. As you munch ot over the chocolate flavor with a hint of vanilla develops. It’s definitely not as intense as e.g. eating a chocolate bar but more like eating seed and nuts coated in cocoa. I really enjoyed it. It tastes healthy but in a great way. Not too sweet. No sweetener aftertaste that I could make out.

Further details:

  • Plant based

  • Gluten free

  • Soy free

  • With Reishi and Algal Oil that’s good for brain power

Overall: I would buy this again. Great satisfying and healthy treat to enjoy on the go or as a quick snack break at work or school. It didn’t feel heavy. Just the right portion, ingredients and flavors to give you a bit more power to get through the afternoon.

Other products available: They also have Keto friendly granola and non-keto nutrition bars and milks.

Where to buy: On their Canadian or US Website or on Amazon.

Price: $29.95 for a pack of 12 on their website and $34.95 on Amazon for 1 pack of 12 with 2 flavors.

Phew….that was a LOT of bars and there are more I haven’t tried yet. If, like me, you’re pretty overwhelmed by all of this, check out the spreadsheet with good old school grades to compare cleanliness, price, texture and more.
